Analysis of Sample Proposals

Individually:
1. Make a list of two strengths and two weaknesses of each of the samples.
2. Rank these proposals in terms of how well they make their argument. Assume that you were actually evaluating these proposals for real change.
3. Post it to your individual blog.

In Group:
1. Discuss the strengths and weaknesses.
2. Make a list of four successful strategies and four weaknesses (from all the proposals)
3. Rank these proposals.
4. Post it--ranking, strengths and weaknesses--here as a comment.

    Strengths
    - Good use of evidence.
    - Good job on justification.
    - All incorporate alternative solutions.
    - Puts justification before solution (hammers in the solution)
    Weakness
    - Don't follow through on procedures for solutions
    - More of a hook
    - Incorporate visual aids
    - Justification -> Problem -> Solution

  2. Successful Strategies: 1.Stating other solutions and why they aren't as effective 2. properly introducing the topic 3. Used subheadings to clearly differentiate different parts 4. Justifications were good

    Weaknesses: 1. Not using one solution 2. Being unreasonable with the solutions 3. Not clarifying the problem 4. Formatting and justification were not all good on the nuclear power proposal in particular.

    2. Using outside evidence
    3. Relating to their audience
    4. Having a good justification for the solution
    Weaknesses:
    1. Unreasonable solutions
    2. Having too many counter-arguments to the proposed solution
    3. Needing more justification
    4. More outside evidence is needed

    -work on explaining it better to the audience to clearly know.
    -work on the flow, use transitions
    -explain the money aspect in a less confusing way
    -target just students that could tell their parents if their parents are paying or helping pay for their college
    Off-campus purchases
    -focus on both genders, don't rule out men because they could benefit too.
    -how the argument is presented, the university would not accept
    -there are apps, that college students get discounts - mention in argument to explain why yours in better
    -list more examples
    -discuss dining hall times as an arugment
    Nuclear Power
    -Go into depth of the problem
    -discuss the costs more
    -relate the problem back than just in the beginning
    -bring examples throughout the paper

    1. Textbook: strengths- good explanation for one solution to the problem, good analysis of problem, relatable problem,
    weakness- lacked sources, did not include counterarguments or examples,
    3. meal plan: strengths- relatable, clear organized, strong justification,
    weakness- no internal citations, lacked personality,
    2. nuclear power: strengths- use of sources, informed argument, good uses of statistics, clear solution
    weakness- difficult to implement, left questions unanswered, weak justification
